Liverwurst (male)

Intake date:   7/29/2017

Breed:   DSH Tabby

Approx DOB:  6/3/2017

Adoption fee:  WAIVED (includes microchip and enrollment fee)

Good with other cats/dogs:  yes

Vetting:  altered (spayed/neutered), UTD on shots, FIV/FeLV negative, been consistently on monthly Revolution

Health issues:  carries feline herpes virus (in remission)  THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON... please discuss with your vet.

Temperament:   Very sweet and affectionate; playful, adventurous, curious

Intake reason:   Liverwurst has been diagnosed with carrying the feline herpes virus.  This virus is NOT contagious to humans or dogs!  There is no way to officially test for this virus; however, based upon symptoms, our vet believes he is carrying it.  He has residual effects with his third eyelid in his right eye, but he is in remission.  Unfortunately, he is at risk of having continuous outbreaks if he stays in our environment.  Cats that carry this virus need a calm environment with little to no change.  He can live comfortably in a home for the rest of his life with little risk of another outbreak, but no in our environment.  Symptoms of feline herpes are similar to an upper respiratory infection and can be cleared with antibiotics.  Any experienced cat owner/lover likely has experience a cat with feline herpes because it is very common.  Some may have experienced it and not known their cat actually carried the virus.  Because it is contagious to other cats, Liverwurst is confined to a ferret kennel.  He gets about 2 hours of outdoor time on our enclosed catio... alone.  This is NOT the life for a cat, but he will be sentenced to this life if he is not adopted.   When he’s in remission, he can be around other cats, but because our environment is not a calm environment, we can’t risk him out of the kennel and getting sick again.  He’s such a sweet boy; loves to be held, purrs like an engine and very lovable.  To entice an adoption, we are waiving the adoption fee and will provide the adopter with 6 months of flea prevention and of course, microchipping and the enrollment fee.  If you cannot give him a home... PLEASE SHARE his story!  He needs a home.

**IMPORTANT NOTES:**

*Only adopters with a responsible cat ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Keep in mind BEFORE APPLYING that a cat’s lifespan is 15-20 years… sometimes even longer!   If you cannot provide a FOREVER home, please do not apply!

**NO BABIES OR SMALL CHILDREN.  Cats, and especially kittens, are very fragile.  Small children don’t always understand this so unless the family has a responsible cat ownership history reflecting children growing up with cats, we won’t adopt to homes with small children.

*** Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply.  Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption until you’ve met the pet (unless you already have).
